Economic and Policy Analysis

The Economic Policy and Analysis Unit (EPAU) is responsible for providing upstream political analysis in support of political dialogue on development issues. The long term development objective of the Unit is to contribute to the improvement of capacity in policy development, analysis, implementation and research in Mozambique. To achieve this, EPAU provides technical advice and support to the Government, civil society organisations, UNDP's management, and the UN Resident Coordinator.

The Unit also works closely with the UNDP Programme Section to provide strategic and policy related services within the Unit’s focus areas. EPAU further engages with the donor community to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on development in Mozambique, as well as engage with local NGOs and research institutions to build their capacity.

A key focus of EPAU is promoting inclusive economic growth strategies which will contribute to poverty alleviation among the most vulnerable groups of society. In that context conducting research constitute a central element of EPAU’s work to stimulate policy dialogue and contribute to the development of effective pro-poor policies. To achieve this, EPAU engages in:

  • Conducting research on development topics relevant to the work of the UN and UNDP in Mozambique
  • Managing the production of Mozambique National Human Development Reports
  • Providing support to the Government of Mozambique on the production of the Millennium Development Review Reports
  • Participating in aid and donor coordination
