Maputo, 14 April 2009-The eighth session of the central Development Observatory, a platform for interaction between civil society and Government where the two parties assess the country's progress in its fight against absolute poverty, took place on the 18th of this month. Launched in 2003 as a government initiative to establish a permanent mechanism for hearing the concerns and aspirations of civil society organisations, the Development Observatory gradually expanded to the provinces and in 2008 for the first time meetings were held in all provincial capitals.
Maputo,14 April 2009 — Over the past four years, the Mozambican gross domestic product has grown at an average rate of 7.7 per cent a year, and GDP per capita has risen from 301 US dollars in 2004 to 473 dollars in 2008, according to the Minister of Planning and Development, Aiuba Cuereneia.
Maputo, 14 April 209— Mozambique's first lady, Maria da Luz Guebuza, said on 24 of March that the country should review the way in which messages about preventing HIV infection are conveyed.
Speaking at the locality of Ndlala, in the southernmost district of Matutuine, as she wound up a four day tour of Maputo province, Guebuza said the age of the people giving the message was an important factor.
Maputo 14 April 2009— As in many other countries, HIV/AIDS is a serious threat to Mozambique's prison population, Justice Minister Benvinda Levy warned on Monday , at the opening in Maputo of a National Seminar on Prison Health.She pointed out that international statistics show a rate of HIV prevalence inside prisons ranging from twice to 50 times the rate among the general population. "This presents significant challenges to the prison and public health authorities", she said.

Maputo, 11th April 2008 – Within the framework of the National Micro-Finance Strategy in Mozambique, the National Directorate for the Promotion of Rural Development (DNPDR) is implementing several sub-components within the project: “Building an Inclusive Financial Sector in Mozambique”, with the support of the UNDP/UNCDF, which includes a sub-component of HIV/AIDS.
Maputo, 11th March 2008 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), launched on 10th March 2008, a course which is part of a project called “Developing an inclusive Financial Sector”. This is the result of various studies undertaken in the country that underlined the need for a specialized professional training for the Micro-Finance sector in Mozambique, and for that reason, the ILO, in partnership with the UNDP, is in a process of institutionalizing the course “To MAKE MICRO–FINANCES WORK – Management for a Better Performance”.
Maputo, 29 September 2006 – Mozambique remains among the 10 most affected countries by HIV and AIDs issue in the world. According to the Mozambique’s National Human Report 2005, the prevalence rate among people aged 15 to 49 was 16.2 in 2004.
