Maputo, 4 August 2006 – In partnership with the Governments of Italy, Sweden, Canada and Portugal, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) provided assistance to the Mozambican 2003 municipal elections and 2004 general ones. The European Union also supported the electoral process directly through the state budget.
The funding of specific electoral activities and materials was one of the objectives of this support, including civic education campaigns, training programmes, voting materials and other election-related publications.
In this regard, the Mozambican Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE) will be organizing on Wednesday, 9 August 2006 in Maputo a ceremony to launch two bilingual publications – Portuguese and English - aimed at portraying the experience of the Mozambican election management bodies in the preparation and holding of the 2003 municipal elections and 2004 general elections as well as its results.
Written by a multi-disciplinary team from the STAE, Local Elections 2003 – one of the referred publications – summarizes activities throughout the 2003 year. The publication entitled General Elections 2004 presents the results obtained from each polling station and is intended to provide interested stakeholders with an instrument for analyzing and reflecting on the voting tendencies in Mozambique.
Both works have an inseparable part: a CD-ROM containing the relevant tables, graphs and charts on the election results.
The ceremony will gather the main stakeholders in the Mozambican electoral process and is expected to be honored by His Excellency the Minister of State Administration, Mr. Lucas Chomera.
