Maputo, 30 March 2007 - Upon request from the UN Country Team (UNCT) Mozambique to the Regional Directors’ Team for Eastern & Southern Africa - an inter-agency training team comprising WFP, UNAIDS, UNICEF, and supported by the World Bank - conducted a three-day training on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) in Maputo, Mozambique, from 27 - 29 March 2007. There were 29 training participants drawn from ten UN agencies in Mozambique, most of whom had been engaged in the formulation of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) III.
The training was officially opened by the UN Resident Coordinator in Mozambique, Mr. Ndolamb Ngokwey, and was meant to equip the UNCT with the tools to operationalize an M&E Framework, through an M&E plan, for the recently published Mozambique UNDAF. It was the first joint UN M&E training/workshop of its kind, and is the first step towards the development of useful UNDAF M&E tools. The tools jointly designed for this training session were piloted and refined in Mozambique and are ready for roll out to other areas that require similar support.
The training was also designed to ensure that participants engage in practical sessions, with examples drawn directly from the UNDAF itself. Ultimately the UNCT would like to ensure that the UNDAF document so laboriously prepared will have a system to jointly track implementation progress.
The UN Country Team feels confident that they will be able to adequately follow the progress of the UNDAF’s implementation, results achievement and better assist in Mozambique’s development.
