Unleashing Entrepreneurship: Making Business Work for the Poor

Maputo, 3 June 2004 – The Mozambican Prime Minister, Ms. Luísa Diogo, is a member of the UN Commission on Private Sector and Development. She launches today the report prepared by this UN Commission entitled Unleashing Entrepreneurship: Making Business Work for the Poor. She takes advantage of the Africa Economic Summit held in Maputo, Mozambique, from 2 to 4 June 2004. The theme of the summit is Engaging Business in Development.

Un Mission In Mozambique To Asssess Third General Elections Assistance

Maputo, 27 April 2004 – In response to the Mozambican Government official request of last February to the United Nations for assistance to the 2004 third general elections, the UN Electoral Assistance Division is undertaking a mission to Mozambique from 26 April to 5 May 2004.

Canada Signs Agreement With Undp For Electoral Assistance To Mozambique - 10 September 2004

 

Maputo – The Canadian Government, through the Canadian International Development Agency, signed on the 9th of September 2004 a Grant Agreement with UNDP to provide assistance to the Mozambican General Elections scheduled for December of this year. The Grant, for Can$ 1.2 Million (approximately US$ 900,000), follows another Grant for the same amount disbursed in 2003 for assistance to the Mozambican Municipal Elections, held last year.

Un Mission In Maputo To Assess Local Elections Assistance - 5th May 2003

Maputo – Further to the Mozambican Government official request for assistance to the municipal elections of October 2003, the UN Electoral Assistance Division will undertake a mission to Mozambique as of Monday, 5 May.
The mission will be composed of Mr. Nour Eddine Driss, Deputy Director, and Marco Carmignani, Senior Political Officer of the UN Electoral Assistance Division of the United Nations.

Evaluation Of The Undp Role In The Electoral Process

 

Maputo, 17 March 2004 – In April 2003, the Mozambican Government submitted to UNDP an official request for UN assistance to the municipal elections of 2003. The UN Secretary General responded immediately by sending a mission from 4 to 10 May 2003. The main objective of the mission was to assess the national context within which the elections were planned and recommend the appropriate UN assistance, if any, to support their successful organization and conduct.

Africa Governance Forum, Press Release No. 01/2002

The Fifth Africa Governance Forum (AGF V), scheduled for 23-25 May 2002, will be held this year in Maputo, Mozambique. The Forum will focus on the theme "local governance for poverty reduction". The choice of this theme was agreed during AGF IV in Uganda in 2001. It is in accord with the declaration of the Summit of the OAU Heads of State and Government (2000) that identified local governance as an integral dimension of human development and an important means of reinforcing poverty reduction policies and programmes.
