UNDP in the Session of Discussions of the Report on HIV/AIDS in the Micro-Finance Sector

Maputo, 11th April 2008 – Within the framework of the National Micro-Finance Strategy in Mozambique, the National Directorate for the Promotion of Rural Development (DNPDR) is implementing several sub-components within the project: “Building an Inclusive Financial Sector in Mozambique”, with the support of the UNDP/UNCDF, which includes a sub-component of HIV/AIDS.

Guebuza Receives UNDP Associate Administrator

Maputo, 29 March (AIM) - Mozambican President Armando Guebuza on Saturday received the Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ad Melkert, who briefed him on the annual meeting of resident UNDP coordinators in Africa, currently under way in Maputo.

Development Support: UNDP Earmarks $22 million

Maputo, March 29, 2008 - The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has allocated to our country a total of $22 million to support the democratic governance, economic development, poverty reduction and HIV/AIDS sectors. Besides this amount, the UNDP will provide support for the local government and provincial elections, scheduled to be held in 2008 and 2009 respectively. This was revealed by UNDP Resident Coordinator Ndolamb Ngokwey.

UNDP and ILO train Trainers in Micro-Finances

Maputo, 11th March 2008 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), launched on 10th March 2008, a course which is part of a project called “Developing an inclusive Financial Sector”. This is the result of various studies undertaken in the country that underlined the need for a specialized professional training for the Micro-Finance sector in Mozambique, and for that reason, the ILO, in partnership with the UNDP, is in a process of institutionalizing the course “To MAKE MICRO–FINANCES WORK – Management for a Better Performance”.

Floods in the north and center: Parliamentary groups in affected areas

Maputo, 03 March 2008 – Members of the Standing Commission of the Assembly of the Republic are leading various parliamentary groups established in Maputo yesterday, essentially to verify “in loco”, from today the situation of families affected by floods in Cabo Delgado, Zambézia, Tete, Manica, Sofala and Inhambane Provinces.
