The Economic Policy and Advisory Unit (EPAU) acts as a facilitator to GoM’s efforts to improve its capacity in policy development, analysis, implementation and monitoring, research and policy analysis. EPAU also works closely with the Country Office (CO) Programme Division to provide strategic and policy related services within six identified focus areas of UNDP (pro-poor policies, Democratic Governance, HIV and AIDS, Sustainable Energy and Environment, Crisis prevention and Post-conflict Recovery and ICT for Development).
The units primary responsibility is to support the upstream movement of UNDP´s operations and delivery of policy-related services at the country level in these areas. We also work with independent civil society organizations and research institutes in order to strengthen their ability to provide independent assessments of government delivery mechanisms and to shore up the ability of civil society to demand services.
A key focus of the focus of EPAU is to ensure that GoM is supported to enforce a practical, action oriented roadmap to improve the quality of aid and its impact on development. In line with the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness, EPAU assists GoM with the requisite capacity in order to create more ownership, alignment, harmonization, and mutual accountability for external resources.
