Durban, 22 December 2010 - The Technology Village of Namialo from Nampula Province won an Award for Innovative Management among 27 African countries in Durban City, in South Africa, on 17 December. The Mozambican innovative model came fourth place in the competition organized by the Secretariat of the African Association for Innovation in Public Management.
Maputo, 21 December 2010 – “There is no lack of corruption legislation but rather lack of implementation of the existing legislation in Mozambique.” This was among the conclusions from the Parliament’s anti-corruption seminar last week that also re-affirmed that Parliament could take a stronger role in efforts for preventing corruption.
Chibuto, 20 December 2010 - In the beginning of December saw a field in Chibuto, in Gaza Province, transformed for just one day into a mobile emergency operations centre. INGC (National Institute for Disaster Management) staff, officials from different Government sectors, and international partners worked busily to analyse information transmitted from villages and districts affected by a flood situation in the Limpopo river basin.
Maputo, 8 December 2010 - UNDP and the Eduardo Mondlane University launched last week a book on Gender and Human Rights in Mozambique. The book is the first Mozambican publication to cover human rights from a gender perspective. It is written by Mozambican academics in the fields of law and sociology and it will be included in the appropriate curricula of the Eduardo Mondlane University, the largest university in the country.

Mr. Enoque Changamo has worked in micro-credit field for 13 years, and he is confident when saying the micro-credits can make a difference in a Mozambican’s life. With the average individual credit of 85 US dollars (3.000 meticais) a street-side vendor can start a business – selling vegetables or groceries in most cases.
Maputo, 23 November 2010 – The government of Mozambique has launched the National Decentralized Planning and Finance Programme in Maputo on 18th of November. The long-awaited programme is budgeted at 46.5 million US dollars and will cover all of the country’s 128 districts. The programme stems from the accumulated experience of decentralized planning and finance in some districts, notably in the northern province of Nampula, where UNDP together with UNCDF initiated a pilot 13 years ago.
Maputo, 19 November, 2010 – Having only five years to go to the deadline of the Millennium Development Goals, UNDP Mozambique appeals to the local business community to vitalize their social responsibility commitments under the Global Compact initiative and even invite new companies to join this effort - an opportunity to fight together against poverty. In partnership with the Centre for Investment Promotion and the Institute of Directors UNDP organized a breakfast meeting with the private sector on the 11th of November, in Maputo.
Maputo, 5 November 2010 - This year’s Global Human Development Report reveals that Mozambique has enjoyed significant progress in human development since 1992. Mozambique’s HDI value has improved notably since the end of the war, and the country is among the top 10 movers since 2000. During the National Launch of the Global HDR in Maputo on 5th of November, a picture of positive Human Development trends was painted. The report highlights Mozambique’s achievements in terms of economic growth, but also notes progress in non-income aspects, such as life expectancy at birth and primary school enrolment levels.
Maputo, 26 October 2010 – More than 70 students attended the UN Book Fair at the Development Information Center situated in the national Public Library in Maputo, just a few days prior to UN celebrating its 65 birthday on 24 October . “This was my first time to visit this Centre, meet UN Directors and discuss with them about the Millennium Development Goals”, told Paulo Júnior Ndjive, 23 years old student of Public Relations and Marketing.
Quelimane, 25 October 2010 - Ivanize Neusa Fita, 22 years old, third-year Law student from Jean Piaget University attended the Moot Court held in the end of September in Quelimane, in Central Mozambique. She found the training both interesting and challenging. After finishing her course Ivanize would like to be a Prosecutor.
