Poverty and HIV/AIDS

UNDP is forging partnerships at the local level with civil society organizations and the private sector to implement targeted demonstration programmes for poverty reduction and employment generation. These include efforts related to micro-finance and the development of pro-poor sustainable businesses.

UNDP's support in the area of HIV/AIDS and poverty reduction focuses on providing policy advice and strengthening government's capacity in key participatory planning, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms and in HIV/AIDS and Gender mainstreaming. Support has been provided to civil society organizations in order to strengthen their capacity in monitoring Government's plans.

Under the Poverty Unit, there is a sub-unit called Rapid Results Fund Unit that was set in 2009 to finance the key components of the Government’s strategy to accelerate the prevention of HIV transmission.
